Much of the research conducted at the Institute of Design Informatics is published within the academic field of human-computer interaction (HCI), which in industry often gets referred to as user experience or user experience design. Institute members have specific expertise in how to study both everyday, and emerging and novel, technologies in authentic real-world settings. We regularly publish in the leading HCI venues such as CHI, DIS, CSCW, with many Institute members contributing to these conferences as volunteers to help run and organise them.
