Prof. Chris Speed FRSE is a Visiting Professor at the Institute for Design Informatics and now Professor at the Royal Melbourne Institute for Technology (RMIT) in Australia. As one of the founding co-directors of the Institute, he developed and lead the Design Informatics from its outset in 2013 until 2022, when he took up a new role as Director of the Edinburgh Futures Institute. Chris moved from the University of Edinburgh and the UK at the end of 2023 to take up a new role at RMIT leading their futures capabilities, but remains a close collaborator of Design Informatics in a visiting capacity. He is also involved in several ongoing research projects, including the Next Stage Digital Economy Centre DECaDE led by Surrey with the Digital Catapult, and he DCODE European network and PhD program for training the next generation of researchers and designers to guide society’s digital transformation towards inclusive, sustainable futures.
