Youngsil Lee
PhD Researcher
Youngsil Lee is a PhD student in Design Informatics at the University of Edinburgh and part of the DCODE network, funded by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant. Her doctoral research focuses on an organism-centric design practice to rethink data in food systems through design for understanding the entanglement of data, humans, other-than-humans, technologies, and ecologies. As a design researcher, she has worked across a FMCG company, academic–government research initiative, IT consulting, and academic institutions in Korea, the Netherlands, and the UK. Her expertise spans digital technologies, food and wellbeing, and sustainability, with particular strength in translating complex economic, social, technological, and ecological dynamics into ecological maps, actionable design methods, and future scenarios across multiple scales. Prior to her PhD, she earned an MSc in Strategic Product Design from TU Delft, and BS and BA degrees in Food Bio-engineering and Visual Communication from Seoul National University.
