Bronwyn Jones is a social scientist researching the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in journalism with a focus on news production and what it means to be responsible, ethical and to pursue the public interest in this context. Formerly a journalist at the BBC, she is interested in ensuring developments in media and communications technology and policy contribute to strengthening public interest journalism.

Bronwyn splits her time between two roles; she is Translational Fellow on the AHRC-funded Bridging Responsible AI Divides (BRAID) programme, which is dedicated to integrating Arts and Humanities research more fully into the Responsible AI ecosystem, and she is a Research Lead at the Responsible Innovation Centre for Public Media Futures (RIC) hosted at BBC R&D, where she interrogates the implications of AI for journalism and researchers how public service media might develop and deploy value-aligned data-driven technologies. Prior to this, Bronwyn was a DCMS Policy Fellow, researching the risks posed by generative AI for journalism and the public sphere. Her work is interdisciplinary and has been funded by the EPSRC, ESRC, AHRC, and Alan Turing Institute.

Bronwyn holds a PhD in Journalism and Technology and spent 15 years as a journalist covering regional and international affairs in English, French and Italian. Working at the nexus of academic and journalistic knowledge production, she is motivated by a desire to bridge theory and practice in innovative ways to drive change in the public interest.
