Designing Ethical Human-Computer Systems

Ewa’s work is driven by an interest in how humans might be supported to understand complex, intelligent systems. This includes (a) intelligibility at the intersect between human and machine intelligence, (b) how, and at what stage of the process, systems designers and architects might be supported to make ethical design choices, and (c) and how ethics and supporting mechanisms, such as consent, might be applied within the context of pervasive computing – in particular the development of new and supplementary forms of consent to meet the challenges of ambient sensor-driven systems.  It focuses on adult skills in the post-16 education context, which is often overlooked.
